It has been so very long since we posted anything, so time for an update. We love to see and read things about the lives of all those we love and care about, so, maybe you all would like to know what we are doing lately. Sometimes, Bill drives up to the little apartment in the teacher's housing where Diane stays when she is working on the reservation. This time, let's see, about a month ago, HoneyBear came too. (When Bill drives up on weekends instead of Diane driving down, it enables Diane to do extra days of make-up work, from when she was so sick before.)
Smile! As you can see, I am just sort of "camping out" there, furniture-wise. One of our goals is to get a few more comfortable things up there! I found an old futon frame that is now almost ready to paint. So, the next order of business is to find a mattress for it that is big enough, then there will be a couch there!!! Yay! Kinda wishing we hadn't given away our extra TV a few yrs ago...oh well, so then a TV, then sign up for internet, buy a portable air conditioner for the bedroom (there is only a wall AC unit in the living rm), and we will be all set! Well, maybe curtains, etc, etc!!! Anyway, that is a major project we have right now that we are enjoying being as thrifty as possible about! Since OT people with jobs nearby to our Show Low home are hanging on to them, it looks like we will be doing this another school year at least. The economy shouldn't be affecting children with disabilities this much, how much less therapy time their schools can afford...much less how the therapists who move here with assurance there is plenty of work to be had......
Bill is maybe considering a school job up there so we could be living together ALL WEEK (what luxury that would be again!!!) But maybe changing jobs right before he turns 65 isn't a good idea. That is a decision we are thinking about/praying about. We never thought we were the "snow bird" type of people, but living in one area part of the year, and another during the summer and holidays might be what we are looking at. Who knew?
We are trying to get financially recuperated from our broken-heater-during-record-breaking-freezing-weeks-adventure back in January, so those of you who had hoped for a visit from us soon---we just can't right now. Sigh. And, working in two different school districts=not the same Spring Break!!! What's up with that? And, we are facing major car repair on the Jeep...Anyway, enough sighing and complaining...lots is GOOD in our life, too!
We have enjoyed exploring new scenery on the Navajo reservation during Bill's visits up there when we have our own vehicle (not allowed to explore in the company car). Next time, we will try to remember the camera, and share some of the views! Lukachukai canyon is especially lovely. I was sharing this with a coworker, who is Navajo, who was amazed we didn't go all the way to the top of that road to see the views from that huge mesa. We didn't know!!! A good idea for our next excursion!
We had a super-fun weekend 2 weeks ago, when Bill's friend from high school and his wife came to visit, Roger and Carolyn Wagner. It was fun sharing our simpler way of life with them, who are wealthy, and finding we had SO MUCH common ground! Their motor home, once expanded, seemed as big as our living room & kitchen combined!!! Bill drove them around to all our favorite spots, and we took a walk around Woodland Lake---GREAT weather that day, but no eagles...we wished they could have seen our eagles! The funnest part of all was listening to Bill and Roger catch up on old times! Repeats of the old stories, plus some I had never heard before, such a fun time!!! We watched the songbirds while we ate dinner here, and became great friends very fast. Our only regret is that we forgot to take any pictures!!! What is happening to us? It used to be a camera was in our hands constantly during visits with people and scenic places!!! Maybe we are just learning to enjoy life as it happens more!!!
