The area where the fire had been 5 years ago was covered in about 2 inches of ash powder, except where roads had been graded. It was very interesting to see new growth of shrubs and wildflowers coming out of the ash. Some trees have a little bit of life left in them, usually at the very top. You can see where little tree seedlings have been planted with protective plastic tubes, to begin the Ponderosa Pines growing again.
