This is a photo of David Sparks, Bill's son, who is in Afghanistan right now, with many other Americans helping to further the cause of freedom. It gets so distressing to see that the first news stories are often about movie stars, sports heroes, and the like. We are a country at war, with our young people putting their lives on the line so that others may someday enjoy lives free from tyrrany, oppression, and fear of bombs in their neighborhoods. No matter what your political views about the fighting there, our thoughts and prayers should more often be about these good, brave people.
This photo is old, taken when David was showing us the sights around one of the bases he was stationed at, before he was deployed. These children are a couple years older, and they have a baby sister whose birth David missed, although he was given a furlough a couple months later when he blessed her and visited his wife and children. I chose this photo because it shows him as a church-going husband, father and son, doing something on the more ordinary side: telling his Dad about his work, walking with us and his wife and children. I hope someday soon he will get to do some more ordinary things again, that we take for granted: like being with his wife and children, going for a walk, telling his Dad about his work. He is scheduled to be home with his family within the next 6 weeks or so.
Please pray for our service men and women, wherever they are in the world. Consider making it a purpose in your fasting, too. We love you David!!! You are always in our prayers.
