A walk to Manti Temple!

My parents live in the lovely town of Manti, Utah. This photo was taken from the parking lot of the Manti Temple, on the north side, on Monday, June 8. Isn't it gorgeous?!! Earlier that same day, we walked from Mother & Dad's house to the south side of the Temple hill. There is a restored home built into the side of the hill, like the ones that the first Mormon settlers lived in during their first winter there. It is called a "dug-out" because it was literally dug out of the hill in the back, with a dirt floor. They had arrived in November, so it was too late to build more substantial homes before the winter set in.
One of Diane's ancestors, Parley Pratt Washburn, was the first white baby born in the settlement, on Nov. 20, 1849. It was remarkable that all of the babies born in those early weeks lived. It was fun to be reminded of Diane's pioneer heritage. This baby grew up to be Diane's father's grandfather, who later settled in Monroe, Utah, where Diane's Dad, Lowell Nilsson was born.

Here are Bill and HoneyBear in front of the dugout and monument. It would be a pretty small home for a harsh winter for a family!!!

We had a great time on our vacation visiting my parents and camping at Bryce Canyon. We have tons of photos, and are anxious to get them all downloaded and recorded on our blog. Be patient as we start from the end!!!
