We reap what we sow, plus a little bit more!

Bill often works a while in the garden before heading off to work. The inches he has lost this summer have a lot to do with the effort he puts in to our garden and yard.
A little acorn squash volunteer! It looks kind of like a little black/dark green pumpkin. This year we also had some cute round cucumber volunteers! Diane also lost a few inches this summer.

Our grapes were rather sour, but the birds love them, and we love that the birds eat many of the bugs we don't want! A good reason to keep watering the grapevine!

These green beans, above, came from seedlings like this below. Cool!

These raspberry bushes, above, gave us lovely yummy berries, below. Not very many yet, but very good. We had to be quick to get them before the birds did! They can have the sour grapes, but the raspberries are ours!

Here is a close-up of the swiss chard. Bill had never had it before, but has become a fan. It has a little stronger taste than spinach, and is good fresh in salads, and also as a steamed veggie. Actually, Diane had never grown it before either, but had fond memories of Oma & Opa sharing theirs from their garden. Chard is full of good vitamins.

The photo above is a row of beets in the front, and swiss chard in the back. In the photo below, if you look very closely, you can see the tiny seedlings they grew from. Each little seed and seedling are such miracles! Even if the beets were a disappointment--rather bitter but cute, as they are a variety that have red and white circles inside, like a target--we still learned a lot from growing them. And the beet greens go in salads, too.
Well, this harvest was definitely better than last year's. We hope to improve our gardening skills every year. And we are thankful for the law of the harvest, that we really do get rewards for our efforts, both in gardening and in life, even if it sometimes takes a loooooooong time to enjoy those rewards.
