To begin our story, first we show this innocent-looking Mr. Snowman candle-holder. Our neighborhood has had power outages of 4 hours or more quite frequently lately. (APS is working on it.) Being the type of people who believe in preparedness, we set out candles in crucial places around our home.
(Oops!) As this sideways photo shows, we placed the candle-holder under the cabinet, next to this bathroom wall. It looked safe enough, we thought, so far from the cabinet, and we wouldn't topple it over accidentally next to the wall. During the power outage, the small candle shone (shined?) so cheerfully.
Hours later, when the power had been back on for hours, Bill opened up the cabinet, Aaaaack!!! This is what he found! Various items around the melted place were still warm, like the bottom 1/3 of the vaseline container. Even tho' the candle had been out for hours, the heat it had generated during the power outage had been enough to melt the plastic coating on the cabinet, heat various flammable items on the bottom shelf, and cause us to be very very thankful we didn't have a worse story to tell!
Shudder!!! Small things CAN bring about great things, even the scary kind!!! Well, we learned a great lesson, and decided to share in case it would help others. Wait, what is this "we" business? I think that I, Diane am the culprit of the initial placement of this candle. Anyway, we have even more to be thankful for than before!!! The end (of this story anyway.)
