Mom and Dad were married 70 years ago today! March 1, 1939. Dad waited until after their 50th anniversary in 1989 before passing away on March 7th. They will keep celebrating anniversaries together from now on. Before Mom joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints February 10, 1999, I was concerned with whether or not my parents would be together forever and if a sealing ordinance after they were both on the other side would result in an eternal union. Since mom received her patriarchal blessing we have had multiple confirmations that Dad has accepted all the ordinances necessary for eternal life and marriage to Mom. From her Patriarchal Blessing. May 18, 1999: “Your helpmate has predeceased you, but he will be reunited with you as you live out the sequences toward your eternal life. He is much aware of your situation here upon the earth and will stand close to the veil to support and assist you in those things possible. … You will understand those things He has prepared for the faithful and be able to participate in these wonderful (Temple) ordinances with someone as proxy for your helpmate. He will be willing to accept these wonderful blessing with you. … You will … come forth the morning of the first resurrection crowned with glory, immortality and eternal lives. You will be in the presence of your wonderful helpmate who has been sealed to you through the eternities…” Many of these promises were fulfilled March 1, 2000 as we knelt at the altar in the Mesa Temple with David as proxy for his Grandpa, my Mom and Dad were sealed together, and I was sealed to them for all time and eternity.
Hope that you enjoy some of the pictures I found of their 50 years together in mortality.
