OK, Get Ready.....**************************************************
Here is the deal: take these (mostly recyclable) materials, build a boat, then put a "passenger" of your choice on it. Then we will go to the stream 1/2 mile away and have races! So, with Moms' and Grandma & Grandpa's help, we duct-taped empty water bottles together, for a catamaran effect, wired paper plates & bowls on top, according to the design of the children. Where is Carter in these photos? Maybe her boats are already done. (She made one for Flower the Skunk, too.)

Time to launch! Excitement is high! Then...
Oops! The boats all went to the other bank and got stuck.

(As Holly deftly hopped rocks to help, all the while saying, "I shouldn't be doing this, I'm not very coordinated", I couldn't help but be thankful she has recuperated from that stroke last year after Nathan was born. So thankful she is here with us today! So thankful she can hop rocks, and take care of her family.)

...Below the waterfall this time.
Whoosh! They go so fast this time! Lots of agony and ecstacy and drama as Faith's ballerina boat is declared the fastest---so light on her feet, that ballerina! The race was so fast that Grandma Diane didn't get a photo of it! This photo shows a later time when Carter ran along side her boat.
But every boat was a winner! They each kept their passengers on board (even if most floated up-side-down the whole way!) Every boat floated!!! Every boat-maker made a great creation and had good ideas! And every boat got to float more than once! Aaaah, good time. Here is Solomon's boat after the races---soggy, but still intact--big stick and all!

It is so pretty here, at Brown Creek, so peaceful. Muddy, but peaceful. Time to start thinking about next year's boat races...what would I do differently?.............
